It’s here!

Another year has passed and now it is finally the return of Bluesfest. Tonight is the night, ladies and gents. For the next two weeks there will be a truck-load of shows every evening for us to enjoy. Unfortunately my summer classes will deprive me of some evenings, but I think I have selected the concerts which cannot be missed.

Exhibit A:

The Flaming Lips.

I was expecting everything they gave me, and more, at last summer’s Bluesfest. And tonight they are back. I was hesitant if I should be skipping school but then I scoffed at myself for even considering missing this night of beauty. I promise, I’ll go to all my other classes.

I took this photo during my last encounter with The Flaming Lips. July 2010.

I’m also pretty excited to say that tonight, after years of no longer listening, I’ll be seeing Coheed and Cambria. The last time I saw them was in London…they were opening for Linkin Park. Me, being the fan girl I am, skipped the main act to hangout with Claudio and Travis. That was honestly my game plan the entire time. So tonight I’ll have a little throwback and maybe even return to the stage I was in at the age of 16. We’ll see…

My first encounter with coheed...

Other exciting things this week will be Skrillex, The Black Keys, Neon Indian and  M. Ward. Just to name a few. Hopefully you can find the time to stop in and have a blast with the rest of us.

Woah Bluesfest

It’s that time of year again. The line up has been released and then I go a little bit crazy. Mainly because I am a 15 minute walk away from this music festival that I love. While I was seriously considering Osheaga…Bluesfest has swept me away once again.

I mean, have you seen who’s coming? I think I’ll be getting my hands on a festival pass, same routine as last year. So much happiness can be sprung from one announcement. Click me!  <<< schedule.

So many choices, and a step up when it comes to the electro scene. Skrillex? Infected Mushroom? Girl Talk?

Yes! But as much as I love to dance, I’m really stoked that M. Ward will be hitting the stage. When I found him my heart may have skipped a beat.

And a little throwback to when I was 15 or so and had a massive crush on the lead singer of Three Day Grace. Don’t care about anything, I am going…and I’ll have flashbacks of the music videos and being an emo teenager with nothing to do.

There is so much more I could rant about, really. I could go on and on for days about Ra Ra Riot and Buck 65 but I won’t.

SO…Who are YOU most excited to check out this summer?

check out my posts on FASHGASM, and get inspired while you’re there too. fashion and sex, can’t go wrong.

Where did January go?

I’m back after a brief hiatus. Sorry, folks, but journalism calls.

While I’m here I’ll update you on some cool things you may also be checking out in the next couple of weeks. If not, then you should consider doing so!

Ajapai is coming to Ottawa this Friday! Tickets are pretty cheap so scoop them while you can! If you’ve never heard of him, he’s a dubstep artist from Japan. As you know, I’m a mega-fan of dubstep, so as soon as I heard “Japan” and “dubstep” I immediately began to feel my mouth water. He’s at ritual nightclub and I strongly encourage you to go!

And on my dear little sister’s birthday [February 11th], it also happens to be DUBSMACK. I may have to bring her to her very first night out at ritual to experience some solid beats.

Rainman will be there, of course. Every time I see him, it only gets better.

Mt. Eden will be the feature that night, coming all the way from New Zealand. Ottawa is really stepping up the game in the dubstep scene. I’ve been to some amazing shows just a bus ride away from my house!

I find Mt. Eden to be pretty chill, definitely excited to see what kind of show they’re gonna bring us here.

My next hope is that Skrillex will make his way back to Ottawa. I hope we showed him a good enough time to make him want to come back again!

And THAT is my dubstep dose.

12TH PLANET

Even though the downstairs portion of RITUAL is small we still showed 12th Planet that we know how to have a damn good time!

Here in Ottawa, we don’t mess around. If you weren’t there you missed some pretty ugly Christmas sweaters and some pretty filthy dubstep. AWESOME NIGHT! Hopefully he’ll hit us up again.

And he even gave us a little taste of last week once again, kinda like this…

Now I’m wayyyyy too pumped for February. Skrillex & Nero. See you there?

Better late then never

I know I missed the official 30th anniversary of John Lennon’s death on here, but it doesn’t mean I wasn’t thinking about it. Because I was. thirty years is a long time…

“Life is what happens while you are busy making other plans…”

This week was the end of classes. While most are probably not too excited about exams, I have to admit, I only have one. Next Friday. So this leaves me a lot of time to slack and do other things. It’s great. I apologize to those of you studying your asses off, though…suckers…

Well I will share some things with you. I didn’t realize that there was a music video for Don’t Haunt this Place by The Rural Alberta Advantage, but there is! And it’s stop motion, which I am a fan of. Hopefully you are too! Apparently I’m a bit behind on the music video side of things. I rarely watch them, and I rarely enjoy any, to be honest.

But this is different. Listening to the lyrics it’s pretty obvious this is a song about breaking up, love and so on and so forth. BUT for those of you expecting a heterosexual romance, I tell you, it is not. And I think that’s the most beautiful part.

And as for your weekly dose of dubstep…this weekend at RITUAL you can catch 12th Planet with Rainman and Numbchuck. I’ve been looking forward to this all week.

It was sad when Skrillex left the stage last Thursday. I was ready to dance all night. The crowd was pretty amazing, and pretty sweaty, too. People fell, people danced, people yelled. It was all fun. But the heat was intense. If you didn’t get yourself some water you were bound to check out. It might have been cold out but it felt pretty refreshing. It was necessary to go outside every so often, no matter how much you were loving the show.

Good news for myself and other Skrillex fans, he’ll be making his way to Toronto this February. I’ll be there. Will you?

I’ll leave you with something tempting. Maybe you’ll even feel the need to hit up Ritual tomorrow. Your speakers aren’t doing it justice…

Inevitable post

This was bound to happen because if you read my blog you already know that I am kind of obsessed with Toro Y Moi.

I read a pretty solid interview today on Pitchfork. I’m getting pretty excited for this new album…

Causers of This has been blowing my mind for months on end so I hope my high expectations are fulfilled with the next album. As much as I love the last album, please Chaz, give us something new! I know it will be brilliant. And I’d hate to wear out Causers because it is too beautiful.

Something else to do with Pitchfork that I feel the need to comment on…

I’m assuming you’ve heard the new Kanye West album. I really shouldn’t assume but I’m pretty sure most of the people I know had to give it a spin immediately. The excitement was unbearable.

I can’t lie, it’s good. But I read reviews…and compare them to what I think I would give them.

Look at THIS right here.

Is that a ten? 10? one-zero-ten? out of another 10? ten? TEN?!

Yes. Yes it is.

Please, discuss. Because while I do expect Animal Collective to get 10/10…which I don’t think they EVER have…I was not expecting this. Maybe a nine, yeah, nine would be fair. But is this album perfect? Not a single blemish or thing you didn’t like?

Apparently he has mastered the art of music. And I don’t even want to know what his reaction was when he saw the big 1-0 on his computer screen. Overall, pitchfork’s rating system confuses me.

On another note, school will soon be ending. And I will get about a month, actually, less, to enjoy my youth to the fullest. I’ll just forget about the readings I have to catch up on for now. Before heading home I will be attending a few shows here and there. Skrillex, for one. I’ve heard dubstep compared to alien music. It makes sense, because, quite simply, it is out of this world. I don’t even know how to describe it. And I can’t exactly imitate it via my voice.

Fortunately, this guy can:

Now that you’ve had your mind blown…

I’ll just blow it a little bit more.

What are you doing December 2nd? If you’re as cool as my friends and I, you’ll probably be dancing to this:

That means you should go! It’s going to be a great release for end of school.

I only have one exam to worry about this semester, but of course it’s the night after Broken Social Scene. I’m going to study really hard so I can enjoy the show. Then I’ll be getting on the train avec sister for a nice trip home. I’m expecting good things to happen, but this does not include the part where my wisdom teeth will be removed.

Last day of same day newscasts are tomorrow! For me anyway…now I can concentrate on my essay. and multimedia.

Then I’m done!

DONE!

DONE!

If you didn’t get it, I’m excited.

My excitement might be a reflection of me listening to awesome alien music.

I’ll leave you with this…as a chance to consider how lame your Thursday night will be and how awesome mine will be. You could always make it awesome though, if you want…
